Dennis,

We called you "Kornie", but you were always a Marine!

You were my friend from the fourth grade and we had so many good times together. I remember our double dates and your old beat up Chevy. I remember your wedding and how beautiful your bride was on that day. I remember you named your son Thomas but you never were able to hold him in your arms. He looked so much like his Dad.
Dennis, rest in peace. Semper Fi. -- Tom

I remember you vividly: gestures, talk, voice--especially voice. I have gone to your name on the Vietnam Memorial twice. -- Mike Cavanagh

I dated Dennis once at MC. We went to a dance and had a nice, yet quiet time. Dennis was cute, very sweet and quiet! I have never been quiet so we remained friends but always shared a polite and quiet nod in the yard at MC ever after. Years later, reading about his death in Vietnam I was filled with sadness as I'm sure all who read the new also felt the loss. Joe and I visited the Vietnam Memorial many years ago and looked for our classmates name on the wall. A Marine helped us find it and we were both overwhelmed and amazed at the emotional experience. Bless you Dennis, you are an American hero.

Dennis and I played Junior Varsity football together under Coach _____ who came from the South with a heavy southern accent.  We were having a game against ???? and in the middle of it Dennis pulled a boner of a move and I believe got us a five yard penalty.  Coach went livid and screamed at Dennis "Kornovich" right after the refferee called a five yard penalty on us.  The ref hears this and whips around and points to coach and hollers "15 more yards for foul language" and paces off another 15 yards, as we all surround the ref and say, "No his name is 'Kornovich'  - coach was not calling you a son-of-a-bitch!''  Ref didn't believe us and we were still 20 yards penalized...not that it was a close game.  Good ol Dennis.

Yesterday, May 29th 2017 was Memorial Day.  I was at A.T.& T. Park.  When the Giants honored our fallen, I remembered my best friend Dennis Kornovich and had a tear in my eye.  He will always be a hero.  Semper Fi!
