Robert Del Santo

Robert "Bob" Del Santo passed away after a long battle with cancer at his home on January 4, 2019, at the age of 76 years. Born in Ross June 8, 1942 to Leo and Yolanda, Bob grew up with his brother Bernie in San Rafael and attended Saint Raphael's, Marin Catholic High School and UCSF. He enlisted in the US Army in March of 1964 and served three years receiving medals for Nation Defense Service and Good Conduct. In February of 1968, Bob began his career at San Anselmo Police Department and was promoted to Sergeant in 1976. He retired in July of 1999 after serving 31 years at the San Anselmo Police Department.

Bob was a family man who enjoyed coaching baseball when his sons were younger, camping trips to McCloud in Mt. Shasta, working on cars, deer hunting, attending car shows and actively donated to several local charities. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon; sons Michael (wife Erica; grandchild Colin) and Raymond; nephews Tony (wife Cara; children, Brittany and her husband Jeff); grandnieces Lily and Harper (Christopher Taylor); and Leo (girlfriend Renee).

A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17 at Monte's Chapel of the Hills, 330 Red Hill Ave., San Anselmo, CA 94960. A Celebration of Bob's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 18, at St. Rafael's Catholic Church, 1104 5th Ave., San Rafael, CA 94901.

In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to be made in his memory to Hospice by the Bay in Greenbrae, CA. The family wishes to thank all of Bob's doctors at Kaiser in San Rafael, Kaiser Home Health Care and all of the doctors, nurses and staff at Hospice by the Bay for the excellent and loving care given to him in this past year.

My best friend at Marin Catholic and  my second cousin; so sorry that his last years were so difficult. I last saw him at his brother Bernie's funeral and we talked about that great old '54 Merc. Rest in peace old friend

I last chatted with Bob at the reunion in 2010. I am so sorry to learn of his passing! He was a friend in both grammer shool and highschool and a great guy. I remember in highschool he had a Pontiac Grand Prix with stick shift. I was so envious. I used to ask him if I could drive it and it was such a great sensation at the time. He is a person that will definitely be sorely missed. God bless you Bob and will meet you there in due time.

I am very sorry to hear that Bob passed.  I remember him as a classmate at MC and thereafter as a member of the Marin County law enforcement community.  While I had only a few cases that I prosecuted with him as an investigating officer, I found him to be very thorough and conscientious--for 30 years, he was a great cop.  Also, in retirement, I was always happy to see him at local car shows. I last saw Bob at his brother Bernie's funeral mass.  I plan to attend the one for Bob at St. Raphaels on Friday to honor a very good man.
