Winnie was the most generous spirit and an excellent mother to 6. She made friends with me in high school when I didn't deserve it, shoplifting beer from her father. She helped me get over the guilt (after her Italian temper died down) and re-established my self-esteem. Years later in the 80s and 90s we became fast and intimate friends, talking at least once a day when we both lived in Palm Springs. Melodie brought us together. Winnie's youngest, Phillip, and one of my nephews, Stan/Doc, were the same age and we used to take them both to all of George's tapings, which they greatly enjoyed , especially trips back stage to "hang out" and eat the goodies in the Green Room. After Winnie got to move back to Marin, she bought the place down the street from the Behms. I used to phone her every Sat. She had a beauty shop in one of the retirement homes in Terra Linda, like a built-in practice. One Saturday there was no answer so I continued calling to no avail so I phoned Melodie. She told me Winnie had died! and I choked. By then her last child, Phillip, was in college. Winnie has left a hole in my heart. -- Suzanne Helms Yanok

Winnie's smile is electric. We had lots of fun times driving her brother, Andy's, car at the end of our sophomore year. We didn't quite have licenses, but the excitement of driving was worth falling prey to the temptation.

Andy drove a group of us to Golden Gate Park, SF, one Saturday. At one point, Winnie and I were together away from the group. We were talking and laughing and then we saw a man in a trenchcoat flash us (exposed his short comings). We didn't know quite what to do, but we did find our group very fast. Our hearts were a'pounding.

I will always have a place in my heart for Winnie. I can hear her voice, see her smile and her freckles, remember pj parties at her home in Fairfax, and so much laughter.

I miss you, girlfriend.

Whenever I think of Winnie I smile and recall a lot of waiting. With all her wonderful traits, in high school Winnie could never be on time. I recall waiting three hours for her to pick me in front of the Circle Drive-In in Corte Madera as a group of us were going to Playland. People kept asking if I was ok! Oh dear Winnie with the great personality! Many years later, not to long before her passing, she moved to Corte Madera down the street from me. We did morning walks for a while and we did a lot of laughing and reminiscing about the good old days at MC.  She was a wonderful mom and daughter till the end. I miss her every time I pass her house, which is daily.
